A PhD position to study the chemistry of atmospheric mercury
New Jersey Institute of Technology

The Khalizov group at New Jersey Institute of Technology has a PhD opening, beginning in Fall 2018. The project focuses on the gas-phase and gas-surface chemistry of atmospheric mercury.

Highly motivated applicants with strong experimental background and undergraduate (master’s) degree in chemistry are invited to apply. The host program is either Chemistry or Environmental Science in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science. The PhD Assistantship will provide full financial support, including the stipend, tuition, and medical insurance.

The project will expose the student to modern experimental and theoretical methods in the atmospheric, analytical, and physical chemistry, including reaction kinetics, mass spectrometry, and also kinetic and quantum chemical modeling. The project will involve collaborations with researchers in Canada and China.

NJIT is a public research university that was established in 1885 (http://www.njit.edu/about/). The current enrollment is over 11,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Annual research expenditures exceed $110 million. NJIT is in close vicinity of New York City (a 20-minute commute by train).
